Blue Damask's Fabulous February Giveaway 2010

At the beginning of the year I had this "GRAND IDEA" for this blog's first giveaway.

Well, as it still is a "grand idea" so I guess am sure it'll keep until some other time in the near future (whenever that may be..) But I'll definitely use the title.

So for this round - the first ever House of Blue Damask's Fabulous February Giveaway of 2010, I decided to keep it simple.

Decoupage Project: Summer Blossom Coasters

Yes, I'm on a roll this week .. enjoy!!! :-)



You don't have to agree with me but I think it's very nice..

Previously a generic store bought square cork-backed coasters. I spent some amount of time peeling the original cover and smoothing the surface using fine sandpaper.



2 pieces of Summer Blossom (napkin : 33cmX33cm) were sacrificed utilised for these coasters. One yield 3 motifs, the rest goes to the scrap file for future project.

The background is diluted Baby Pink. The dotted border is Metallic Champagne - I'm growing very fond of this acrylic paint. Both are Plaid's Folk Art.



They still need at least 2 coats of varnish.. :-) OK, one last photo, just because..



I still have another set of blank coasters.

Decoupage Project: Rose and Lace Heart Bag

This heart shaped (ply)wood bag was meant for the WMC's 4th Exchange last year but I was not inspired. It has been sitting in my WIP box all along until last (productive) weekend.


Front

The background is a very sheer Sheer Blossom. I used bits and parts of Rambling Rose. The lace part (which is not as elaborate as I want it to be - I might redo it later) is Metallic Champagne.

I lined the inside with pink wrapper cut to size and glued with mod podge.

Yes, I was being very thorugh this time.

Needlework: Shuttle Tatting part 1

Keeping up with my resolutions, I'm learning something new.

I spent the weekend going through the basic from a book borrowed from the National Library (will update with the book once I have access to the scanner). Learning on your own can be frustrating sometimes but the line drawn patterns and clear instruction make it less daunting.

I do not own a shuttle so I improvised with the no.13 tapestry needle and make do with the DMC's verigated cotton perles I have. Until my next trip to the craft shop supplies that is.. ;-)


Tatted Butterflies
I did the yellow first - it was a bit lopsided so I did another one. The pink/red is much better.

Not too bad for a beginner - but definitely needs more practice, yes?

It's interesting that I managed to keep up my enthusiasm (so far) cos I remember trying to crochet once and failed miserably...

Any local tatters out there? Do say hello at the the box.. (I want to pick your brain)

She has just started doing decoupage but so far her works has been quite exceptional. You can visit her blog to see more photos.

I plan to reincarnate this into a mirror (yet to find one of suitable size) so for the time being, a frame it is.. :-)

I used Jo Sonja Dioxine Purple - on its own and with waterclear retarder.

Looking much better with silver lining. The original gold doesn't works (refer below)

The 2 dried bay leaves are purely for aesthetic purpose.

Decoupage Project: Another Picture Frame

My second picture frame. The first one I made is here.



The boarder came from pink Cath Kidston's Pastel Stripes but with a slightly different treatment - now it looks almost dusky rose. (I LIKE IT VERY VERY MUCH!).


Both frames side by side.

I've replaced the original insert with these quaint faux vintage ads which came from a.e.i.o.u wrapper.
